Fieber festival (Germany)

When I received the invitation to participate in this festival, I was beyond excited and immediately reached out to the organizers, asking if I could create some paper sculptures.

I had been dreaming of this idea since 2011, when I collaborated with the Hylas Boys—an incredibly talented group immersed in the world of stop-motion films. They helped me bring a video interview to life, which was made up of multiple scenes shot in various locations. We even added an animated sequence by another illustrator to depict a Tibetan dance.

But, to get to the point: in one of the scenes, I designed a paper diorama that mimicked the jungle, and this idea stayed with me ever since. I knew I would eventually bring it to life in human size.  So, when the opportunity for this show came, I gave it a shot. Unfortunately, the time constraints (only a couple of days to prepare) and the exhibition’s theme (which didn’t quite align with my fantasy jungle vision) kept me from fully realizing it.

However, this is definitely something I’ll explore in my solo shows in the future, and I can’t wait to dive deeper into it!

Tisiphone

I began this piece during my trip to Athens. While browsing through a friend's library, I came across an incredible book that I’ll be sharing in the next few days. In it, I rediscovered the magnificent portrait A Young Lady by Petrus Christus, a work that has often inspired me. I felt it would be a great opportunity to reinterpret the beauty of this painting through my own lens.

Process

In the image below, my excitement led me to incorporate embroidery, a craft I first learned as a child.

However, I quickly realized that the delicate details of the embroidery clashed with the complexity I intended for the hair. It turned out to be a bit of a miscalculation, and I ended up spending more time than I anticipated. Still, even though it didn’t quite work out as planned, it was a failure I can appreciate.

Tisiphone was one of the Erinyes or Furies, and sister of Alecto and Megaera.

She was the one who punished crimes of murder: parricide, fratricide and homicide. A myth recounts how Tisiphone fell in love with Cithaeron, and caused his death by snakebite, specifically, by one of the snakes from her head.

Precious liquids

I’m so excited to share that I’ve just completed a new piece for the upcoming exhibition at Compound Gallery! The theme of the show revolves around art made with or inspired by paper and scissors, and I decided to bring my vision to life through a collage.

Initially, I wasn’t sure where the piece was headed, but after a few inspiring emails with the incredible team over at Cyan Magazine, the concept finally clicked—waves. The fluidity, movement, and texture of waves became the perfect metaphor for the materials and the process.

I’m thrilled to announce that you’ll be able to see the digital version of this collage in the next issue of Cyan Magazine, launching on July 29th!!

The liquids are those that the human body produces when subjected to emotions such as fear, joy, pleasure, suffering. Blood, milk, and tears are thus the precious liquids that I orchestrate in this collage .this collage is also a tribute to Louise Bourgeois ,precious liquids .
